ICICI Lombard IPO gets fully subscribed, bidding ends later today

Indian insurer ICICI Lombard's initial public offering of shares to raise as much as 57 billion rupees ($888.40 million) was fully subscribed early on the last day of the sale on Tuesday, stock exchange data showed.

As of 0515 GMT, the sale had received bids 1.03 times the number of shares on offer, according to data from the BSE and the National Stock Exchange.

The company's two main shareholders - ICICI Bank Ltd and Canada's Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd - are selling a combined 86.2 million shares, or a 19 percent stake, in what is the first Indian IPO by a non-life insurer.

Bidding for the sale closes later on Tuesday.

Exchange data showed qualified institutional buyers had bid for 2.37 times the shares on offer for that category, while retail investors had bid 0.62 times, shareholders bid for 0.58 times and non-institutional investors bid 0.10 times.

ICICI Bank slips post 8% fall in June-quarter profit

STOCK MARKET - ICICI Bank fell as much as 2.9% in today’s trade after the private lender reported 8% fall in June quarter profit to Rs 2,049 crore (YoY), in line with Street expectations. The drop in profit was impacted by higher provisions and subdued growth in other income & operating income.

Slow growth in net interest income also hit profitability but the asset quality was stable during the quarter with sharp fall in slippages. Slippages for the quarter stood at Rs 4,975 crore, which were much lower than Rs 11,289 crore reported in Q4FY17.

Chanda Kochhar, MD & CEO, explained that the dip in profit was on account of the fact that exchange rate gain related to overseas operations, which was available in the year-ago quarter, was no longer permitted to be accounted for as income from the reporting quarter and ICICI Prudential Life had moved to dividend payments on half-yearly basis from quarterly basis.

Asset quality of the country's largest private sector lender was stable during the quarter. Gross non-performing assets increased to 7.99% from 7.89% but net NPA declined to 4.86% from 4.89% (QoQ).

Kochar said that the gross additions to NPAs at Rs 4,976 crore in the June quarter were the lowest in the last seven quarters, reiterating the bank's guidance that incremental bad loans in the current financial year to March will be lower than the last financial year.

MARKET NEWS - ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company (ICICI Pru), Venky's (India), Page Industries, Triveni Turbine, Godrej Industries and Godrej Consumer Products are among 24 stocks from the S&P BSE 500 & S&P BSE Smallcap index hitting their respective record highs on BSE in intra-day trade on Tuesday.

Transport Corporation of India, Skipper, Sona Koya Steering, Elgi Equipment, Deepak Fertilisers, Aditya Birla Nuvo and Grasim Industries too hit all-time highs today.

ICICI Pru has rallied 8% to Rs 508, its highest level since listing on September 29 2016 on BSE, on back of heavy volumes. A combined 2.56 million shares have already changed hands against an average sub two million shares were traded daily in past two weeks on BSE and NSE.

The stock of insurance company is one of the best performers thus far in the current calendar year 2017, surging 68%, against 17% rise in S&P BSE Sensex.

Since May 25, post March quarter results, ICICI Pru have gained 27% against 1.5% rise in the benchmark index.

During the fiscal ended March 2017, the Value of New Business (VNB) was increased by whopping 61.7% to Rs 666 crore as compared to Rs 412 crore a year ago.

VNB increased primarily on account of increase in protection business and improvement in persistence, ICICI Pru said in a statement.

The management sounded confident of maintaining strong growth trajectory going forward on the back of huge under-penetration in the protection business and rising share of financial savings.
