Morning Azaan disturbed his sleep and Sonu Nigam went on a rant

Not everyone is having a great start to the week this Monday it seems. Sonu Nigam sure is one person who is not happy with being woken up early by loudspeakersblaring the Azaan from a mosque and his tweet has created the proverbial storm in the Indian Twitter cup.

At 5:25 am today morning, Sonu tweeted

God bless everyone. I'm not a Muslim and I have to be woken up by the Azaan in the morning. When will this forced religiousness end in India

At last count the Tweet had been retweeted more than 2100 times and Twitter can’t stop dissing the use of loudspeakers at Mosques, Temples or for any religious function

But Sonu Nigam didn't just stop there

And no, he didn’t just single out Mosques for using loudspeakers

I don't believe in any temple or gurudwara using electricity To wake up people who don't follow the religion . Why then..? Honest? True?

While some took offence at his tweets, others added that loudspeakers at all religious places were a problem and ought to be shut down.

Snapchat ratings drop to 1 star on App Store post CEO's 'poor India' remark

A day after news broke out regarding Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel's disinterest in expanding the business to "poor countries" like India, the rating of the popular app dropped to a "single star" from an apparent "five star" on the App Store.

According to the app info on App Store, the "Customer Ratings" of the current version of the app was "single star" (based on 6,099 ratings) and all versions rating was "one and half star" (based on 9,527 ratings) as on Sunday morning.

The rating for the app on Android Play Store was "four star" (based on 11,932,996 ratings).

The bashing started when US-based news website Variety on Saturday quoted Snapchat's ex-employee Anthony Pompliano as saying that company CEO Evan Spiegel in September 2015 told him that "the app is only for rich people. I don't want to expand into poor countries like India and Spain".

Indians did not take the comment lightly and took to social media to lash out at the statement from the CEO. As the ratings of the app dropped, the criticism of the CEO and the app increased. READ MORE

Google app for food delivery, home services live in Bengaluru, Mumbai

Google has introduced Areo, one single app for food delivery and home services, currently live in Bengaluru and Mumbai on Android devices.

"Areo lets users search for local restaurants and home services like electricians, plumbers, and painters, and schedule their deliveries or appointments through the app," the company said in its Google Play store.

The app also provides customer reviews of the available companies, eateries to help you make informed choices from product quality to the timeliness of service.

By-polls: BJP wins Delhi, HP, MP, Assam; Congress bags Karnataka seats

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday won the Assembly bypolls in Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Assam while it was leading in Rajasthan as results poured in for the nine seats where elections were held on Sunday.

There was some solace for the Congress in Karnataka where it won both the seats.

By-elections were held in nine Assembly constituencies in seven states on Sunday, besides the Srinagar parliamentary seat. Two seats each are in Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh and one each in West Bengal, Assam, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and Delhi.

BJP takes Delhi ahead of municipal polls

The thumping victory in the national capital was sweet music for the BJP ahead of the municipal polls.

The BJP registered a victory in the Rajouri Garden Assembly by-poll, handing a humiliating defeat to the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which finished a distant third and even lost its deposit.

BJP-SAD joint candidate Manjinder Singh Sirsa bagged 40,602 seats, over 50 per cent of the total votes polled, in a boost for the saffron party.

Congress' Meenakshi Chandela finished second with 25,950 votes while AAP's Harjeet Singh managed to get only 10,243 votes, less than one-sixth of the total votes polled.

BJP keeps Congress at bay in MP

In Madhya Pradesh, BJP retained the Bandhavgarh Assembly seat after defeating rival Congress by margin of over 25,000 votes while it was a close fight between Congress and BJP in Ater seat.

BJP nominee Shivnarayan Singh defeated Congress' candidate Savitri Singh from the seat in Umaria district by 25,476 votes, an election official said.

The bypoll was necessitated as BJP MLA Gyan Singh got elected to the Lok Sabha in November last year from Shahdol in a bye-election. (READ MORE)
